Project Description

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (Met Council), operator of the metro-area wastewater collection and treatment system, will be relocating the sanitary sewer interceptor (pipes) adjacent to Grass Lake, located in the Vadnais-Snail Lakes Regional Park in Shoreview, Minnesota. These improvements will repair the aging infrastructure and improve the system’s efficiency and reliability.

The interceptor is often submerged due to rising lake levels, which prevents staff from performing routine maintenance. This creates a risk that the lake may drain into the sewer pipe or damage the surrounding environment.

In addition to relocating the sewer, this project will include trail improvements. We are working with Ramsey County Parks and Recreation to relocate a portion of the trail that frequently floods to higher ground which will improve accessibility for park users. The project will also add a dedicated cross-country ski trail adjacent to the paved trail.

Public Involvement

A public meeting was held Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Shoreview Community Center, with a presentation followed by a Q&A session with the project team.
