Robert Street Sanitary Sewer Improvements

Project 809518

Project Description

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (Met Council), operator of the metro area wastewater collection and treatment system, is making improvements to the local and regional sanitary sewer facilities along Robert Street in Saint Paul from Annapolis to Page Street East. Work includes relocating a wastewater meter and replacing the brick sanitary sewer pipe. Construction is scheduled to occur between 2027 and 2029 and will be done in collaboration with MnDOT’s Robert Street Highway 3 Improvements Project and Metro Transit’s new METRO G Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station construction project to reduce overall impacts on the surrounding community. We aim to improve the infrastructure for the next generation by making design decisions so our infrastructure can last 30 or more years.

Project need

This portion of the regional sanitary sewer system was originally constructed in 1888, is currently in fair structural condition, but has reached the end of its useful service life.

Anticipated construction impacts

Met Council is committed to being a good neighbor. While we do our best to minimize impacts during construction, some temporary inconveniences may occur as the work takes place. Here is what you can expect:
  • Construction traffic
  • Lights, noise, vibration, and dust consistent with construction activity
  • Temporary odors related to sewer work
  • Temporary road and sidewalk detours and/or closures. We will plan appropriate detours and partner with the City of Saint Paul, City of West Saint Paul, and MnDOT to minimize community impacts.
  • Vegetation impacts from the temporary wastewater conveyance pipes.
