NE Minneapolis Sewer Rehabilitation
Project Description
Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (Met Council), operator of the metro-area wastewater collection and treatment system, will be repairing a major sewer line in Northeast Minneapolis. Repair includes installing new maintenance holes and inserting a new pipe inside the old one using a process called cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining. Temporary wastewater conveyance pipes will maintain the continuous flow of wastewater around the construction site.

Project impacts
Met Council plans to begin work in August of 2026. Construction will be completed by December 2026. The following pedestrian, bike, and vehicle routing interruptions are anticipated:
- Short-term traffic disruptions.
- Parts of Tyler Street NE between 31st Avenue NE and 32nd Avenue NE and Randolph Street NE near 31st Avenue NE will be closed throughout construction for installation and operation of a temporary wastewater pumping station. While some street parking options will be inaccessible during construction, full alley access will be maintained.
- Noise, dust and odors where the temporary wastewater pump system will be installed.
- Vegetation impacts due to installation of temporary wastewater pumps.
- The trail on the south side of St. Anthony Parkway will be closed between Central Avenue NE and Columbia Avenue NE to accommodate two temporary wastewater conveyance pipes. Bike and pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the St. Anthony Parkway north-side trail.
- The St. Anthony Parkway Off-Leash Dog Park will remain open but parts will be fenced off during construction. The archery range will be closed for the duration of the project.
Timing of the closures and detours is subject to change.

“What’s That Smell?”
As wastewater crews fix our pipes from the inside, you might smell - well, poop. Another smell you might notice is a little bit like glue. These smells are normal, and they can escape during repair. Our crews will monitor odors to meet air quality standards and we’ll do our best to reduce them during construction.
