Project Overview
Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (Met Council), the
operator of the metro area wastewater collection and treatment system, is rehabilitating a meter structure and a section of regional sewer at Xerxes Avenue South and West 54
th Street on the border of Minneapolis and Edina. The work will include replacement of an existing meter that records flow from Edina as well as about 200 feet of sewer pipe. This project will address issues with the meter and the sewer pipe and will reduce maintenance needs in the area.
Expected Community Impacts
Construction of new sewer infrastructure can have temporary impacts on a community. The most common impacts include noise, dust and odor from construction activities, as well as traffic detours. Neighbors can expect to see large construction equipment, trench excavation, and temporary stockpiling of materials such as soil and sewer pipes in the project area.
There are many residents in the project area. Environmental Services will work closely with those directly impacted to develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruption during construction. This may include maintaining temporary access, providing accommodations, or coordinating work schedules with businesses.
